Welcome to Copenhagen’s smallest and probably most beautiful wine bar, Anløbet

Anløbet

When you are in Sydhavnen, you cannot help but be drawn by the beautiful white church-like building that lies right next to the harbor on Engholmene. It is Anløbet – Sydhavnen’s landmark, which today is a gathering place for the locals in the area.

Anløbet is probably Copenhagen’s smallest wine and beer bar. With a direct view over to the green Amager and Amager rowing club, it is a very special experience to sit in the middle of Copenhagen, but at the same time have the feeling that you are far away from the noise of the city.

The ceilings are high here and the sun hits the Anløbet from early morning until it sets over HC Ørsted’s iconic buildings. Anløbet is an excellent sundowner spot. The harbor bus takes you directly to Anløbet, the stop is called “Enghave Brygge”

The first floor of the wine bar can accommodate 10 seated guests. Outside, there are countless good places to sit. Anløbet offers excellent wine, beer, coffee, ice cream and some snacks. If you get hungry, you can eat at our neighbor Klase wine bar www.klase.dk

The story of Anløbet

The beautiful little church-like house was built in 1923 and served as a pumping station for Copenhagen’s water supply. Originally it was located at the other end of Engholmene, close to Copenhagen’s rowing club.

The house hides several interesting quirks and good stories. In the old days, the building was called the drowning house, as poor dead people who had fallen into the harbor were kept. The story is pretty much true, except that it wasn’t Anløbet, but a completely different building that was used as a chapel.

Another good story goes that when the pumping station was not to be used any more and was empty – there were some people who had broken into the house and had fallen into a very deep shaft under the house and tragically died. The story cannot be confirmed, but it is known that the shaft was filled up so that this could not happen.

In 2019, it was decided that they wanted to preserve the beautiful old pumping station, after which Anløbet was moved to its current location on Christian Langes Plads. So here Anløbet stands today, with all its quirks and good stories, welcoming everyone to Engholmene.
